Has anyone listened to a Julian Bream CD released in June? Called Guitar Recital (Testament SBT1333) it's recordings he made for the BBC. Most of it's Bream solo, but it also lists a Schubert duo with John Williams.

For me , it's by far the best duo recorded by Julian Bream and John Williams.
You can see what Gramophone said about it on this link

Thanks. BBC Music Mag also gave a god review. Time to buy I think.

Now I've had a chance to listen to it a few times I thought I'd add some more thoughts. A fantastic duet.

Like the Williams/Bream 'Together' duets of early 19th century music (Carulli, Giuliani, Sor) this is a really spirited performance of the fast movements, lyrical in the slow. An excellent recording too.

Worth having for this 25 minute duet alone, but as a bonus you do get Bream solo. You might not need another Bach Chaconne or Sor Op.9, but Bream didn't record the Blue Guitar for any of his record labels.

Bream's notes say this was the last time recorded together (1985). I wonder what else sits in broadcast archives?

If you've not got this (the Schubert duet is a must for Together fans) there's a copy on eBay at the moment. Not mine.

I didn't see it cheaper on-line for less than £10.99 when I bought it, so maybe a bargain for someone.

Welcome back Richard. I hope in your absence you caught up with this Bream CD with its marvellous duet with JW - I hope it won't be long before you get to revise the JW discography and get this at the top of the list.

Strangely enough, earlier today, someone sent me details of TWO recordings of the SAME piece (Schoenberg's Serenade) which I knew nothing about, which I am in the process of adding to my database, and I've taken the opportunity to include the Bream CD which I've had for months and months but never got around to adding.

Thanks for the reminder, Tim!

(I really must get around to reading the last 9 months'-worth of posts, but I have difficulty finding a 2-hour chunk of time to devote to it).
