does anyone know which album "women of ireland" is on? in gaelic its " bean in eireann"...i've heard john williams play it and am not sure if he has changed the title after recording it or ifs its on an album i haven't found on the web yet as not all of the albums have a tracklist.
I would be very grateful for any info |

Is this the same John Williams? There is an Irish John Williams who released two albums, 'John Williams'and 'Steam' but he played accordion, concertina, whistle, flute and bodhrán, not guitar.
The song is sung by Kate Bush on 'Celtic Circle' but its Gaelic name is given as 'Man Nah Eireann'. |

I wondered if it was the same John Williams too? The most famous film composer of that name has written some Irish sounding scores (e.g. Far and Away) though I don't know how much he arranges traditional airs in them.
But there's another interesting connection here. The Chieftains recorded Women of Ireland (Mna Na Heireann) on 'Chieftains 4' and for the Barry Lyndon soundtrack. 'Barry Lyndon' used a Handel Sarabande as its main theme, the same one which JW recorded on 'Echoes of London' (I think - Handel's Sarabandes are dominated by their distinctive rhythm and can all sound a bit the same). When Mike Oldfield recorded Women of Ireland on 'Voyager' he interspersed it with that Sarabande.
That Sarabande was also used to advertise some jeans... |
