Going for £4.99 in HMV.

I noticed. I was out on Saturday and I got it. Which ain't bad, considering it only came out offically two weeks ago.

Incidentally, Virgin have the expanded Seville Concert up for £4.99 (I recently got the US version via eBay so I don't need it) and they also had Guitar Moods (about which I'm in two minds) going cheap.

I have the impression that stuff on The (new) Essential Collection has been cleaned up a bit or remastered.

Sounds a bit punchier. (Mind you, some of my other compilations go back a bit.)

The clear sound reveals the shortcomings in the master of Cavatina. It was probably re-used for more releases than any other track so I don't know if it suffered the same fate as some of the early Beach Boys and Simon & Garfunkel master tapes. They got played and copied so often that the sound began to suffer. (Allegedly.)

Just noticed that this album has all of 'Changes' and 'The Height Below', plus all but two tracks ('The Swagman'; 'Sheep May Safely Graze') from 'Travelling'.

There's now no need to release the first two on CD (and they would fit on one CD) so few would buy them, unless of course it's "Digitally Remastered with bonus tracks".

Could they be holding back the other two tracks for a release of 'Travelling'? 'Sheep' is only available on Music Club's 'The Best of John Williams' and 'The Swagman' has not appeared on any CD.

Unless someone knows different...?

I thought I'd keep an amused eye on an ebay listing of this because of the price.
It finally went for £12.39 less p&p. Even amazon lists it for £5.50 less p&p.
Some people just don't look...

Many moons ago, probably when it first came out, I saw 'Morning Sky' while in London on my way back from holiday. I didn't buy it, thinking I could do so when I got back home. alas, I never saw it again.

After buying the 'Essential Collection' CDs, i decided on a whim to create a CD version of the album, for a bit of fun. I have a list of 10 tracks which I believe were on the LP. Were there more?

Hi George,

Sorry for the delay in replying. Why you'd want to re-create a compilation LP is a bit beyond me, but this is the track listing (including the source albums):

Side 1:
Dance Of The Emperor's Clouds
Lorelei
Lisa Larne
Horizon
(the above are from The Height Below)
Woodstock (Changes)

Side 2:
Bach Changes
Theme from Z
Cavatina
Raga Vilasakhani Todi
Sarabande
(all from Changes)

Thanks, Richard.

Only for a bit of fun, and because I passed up the chance of getting the LP all those years ago!

Yes, I know, I really should get out more...

George

Agreed. I'm still on the case! (despite needing to bucket about 3 tons of soil into a skip(s)!)
