Got it from the Pete Atkin newsletter (about his recently deleted re-issue CDs):
"One possibility is that the successors to Essex Music (who own the first three albums) may revive their old Castle/Cube/Fly catalogue (almost certainly involving downloads as a part of the package), which could well include our stuff among several shinier names than mine, people whose back catalogue has always done well, and it wouldn’t hurt to be a part of a larger scale enterprise. Again, there are no immediate plans, but I’ll keep you informed.
One possibly exciting development on the Essex front is that they have, after all these years, discovered studio tapes (multi-tracks and masters) of a great deal of material, including a lot of mine. It’s going to take a long time to find out exactly what’s there and to transcribe it on to modern media, but, again, watch this space." |

I guess there's quite a few of us who think The Essential Collection is still something of a missed opportunity... a re-issue with the original track order in cleaned up sound and some original art-work would have been so much better.
I don't know if JW has any say in the re-issue of this material - probably not I guess. It's sad how artists sometimes lose control (and for some income) from re-issues of recordings: I really enjoyed Richard Durrant's Guitarra Classica CD (£2.99 for a fine performance of the Giuliani concerto on a period guitar, and Vivaldi's D major on mandolin complete with twiddly bits, plus some Schubert), but then I read on his web-site that he's never received a penny for it.

I got the Guitarra Classica cheap too. Deleted now I think.
Pete Atkin is a singer who worked with Clive James. On their albums, most of the lyrics were written by CJ and the music by PA. I first came across them when they toured with their new album (c. 1976) "Live Libel: A Musical Tribute To Insufficiently Neglected Modern Artists".
That comes as a surprise to most people, Clive James being a songwriter.
