| There is a new CD by Steve Gray out. It’s a requiem for choir and big band an so consequentially it’s called “Requiem For Choir And Big Band”. The CD is published by skip records and NDR. Steve Gray composed the requiem and he conducted the NDR Big Band as well. It was recorded in Hamburg. Don’t expect anything like sky in it. But it’s much of Steve Gray in it, I would say. A very interesting, exciting and emotional work. I’m very impressed, and, as far as I know, the music press is as well. It seems to be the first attempt to write a jazz requiem and the result is persuasive. By the way: Steve and the Big Band will perform the work again in November. |
