I was at a concert last Saturday by the BBC Big Band in the newly re-opened City Halls in Glasgow (superb venue - well worth a visit if you get the chance).
Anyway, one of the numbers they played was the traditional Scottish song ' Will ye no' com back again' - arranged by none other than Steve Gray. A definite highlight of the gig.
You can have a listen on the BBC Radio 3 website - look for 'Jazz line-up' for the 21st January.

I'm in the West End of the city, Bill.
Saw Sky twice at the Apollo, also the Shadows several times (once went backstage to meet them and saw the venue in all its horror...)

I've just bought a couple of LPs from the 1970s by Sweeney actor Dennis Waterman. 'Down Wind of Angels', 1976, and 'Waterman', 1977. They are both produced by Brian Bennett and Steve Gray is credited as having done the string arrangements on both albums. I have yet to play them, but I'm looking forward to it.
Just thought I'd mention it for the benefit of those interested in Steve's long list of credits. And I just thought I'd remind Steve, just in case he had forgotten... |

Blimey, that comes as a surprise, Steve! Glad that I could be of service jogging your memory! I'm a big fan of BB, as you know, as I am of The Sweeney. It was a big surprise to see your name on these LPs, although you are incorrectly credited as 'Steve Grey' on one of them! The records themselves appear to be in pristine condition and I am looking forward to playing them. I shall keep you up to date and, if you are interested, I shall let you know more after I have had a chance to listen to them! Funnily enough, I don't have a hi-fi or any kind of record deck at the moment! Maybe I should remedy this ASAP?!!

If this memory jogging is so useful to Steve, maybe we should be singing "I could be so good for you...."

(God, don't tell me Steve arranged that too!)
(2) What BBC martial arts documentary series did Dennis Waterman narrate?
Both are FAR too easy so don't expect a prize. If you want hard questions and/or a prize, tell Richard Sliwa to come out of hiding. This whole thing is down to him. I hope he is all right because we haven't heard from him for ages. |
