John Williams is brilliant.
I heard Sky live. Crap. Why he likes that I've no idea.

He did of course go off the idea. Of all 'classical' musicians, whatever the instrument, JW has had a very wide range of interests in a variety of styles. From early in his career he realised that there was more to his instrument than Tarrega and Bach. His motto (where's the cedilla) could be 'plus ca change...'
Sky was just an extension in one direction for him, Takemitsu and Sculthorpe another.
And in Sky he found a group of other musicians with varied interests and explored different styles. Remember Sky wasn't 'John Williams and Sky' or JW's backing group. |
