Did SKY ever make music videos ?

Music Videos, in the modern sense of the term, came about some time after Sky were active. The only one I know of is a studio recording of Toccata on the Weinybuds Videostars compilation. The only other official video footage is of Bedrock, Bremen and Westminster Abbey.

Other than that there's home recordings of TV transmissions. An onofficial clip very occasionally appears on a website somewhere. If you know of any material someone's got stashed in a loft somewhere...

There also appears to be 2 videos of the Hammersmith Odeon gig held in a library in Perth, and are probably videos sent by the BBC to Oz for local TV transmission. If you can think of any way of, erm, obtaining these...

I am fairly certain I read somewhere (possibly in one of Steve Gray's postings on the previous forum), that there were a couple of promo videos made during his time with the band. Possibly 'Masquerade' and possibly 'The Animals Part One'. Or it could hve been for something off sky3. I could be wrong about this and apologies to Steve if I have credited him incorrectly.

I am certain I read it somewhere on this site, but it was a long time ago...

I can remember watching a 'single' video clip of Meheeco (ie without the extended waterphone/double bass intro)circa 1981/1982. I'm almost positive this was aired on an Australian television program aimed at children/teens called "Simon Townsend's Wonderworld". The program featured a music clip on each episode and I can vividly remember this clip which was performed in a studio. I was 14 at the time and a huge fan of Sky (still am!!) and remember the enjoyment of seeing this video clip of the group.

Chris is right about The Animals; as far as I remember it was directed by Mike Mansfield. I think the other video promo was Moonroof. It was certainly at the time of Sky 3 but (to paraphrase Chris and adopting an old gadgie's voice) "That was many, many years ago, long before your time..."

Gadgie. I had to google for that one Steve. Unfortunately google's top of the list is at Urban Dictionary. I'll assume that the first one is not what you meant! :-) Hmmm, Moonroof and The Animals eh? Time for some "Want it Now" listings on ebay. (More long shots...)

Great site, Tricky. No 2 is the definition we Middlesbrough lads used.

In light of Steve’s comments, perhaps that video clip I saw many moons ago (or should that be Moonroofs ago?) was in fact Moonroof – would have sworn it was Meheeco but perhaps my memory’s getting a bit hazy after 25 years (uh oh, maybe I’m becoming an old gadgie or the Aussie equivalent!?) Still remember enjoying the clip though!

All the best from Down Under.

Leigh.

Thanks, Steve. Glad to know that my memory isn't failing me. Yet. I had a feeling that you'd mentioned 'The Animals' on the old forum, some years ago. Thanks for confirming this and the other details you have remembered.

I wouldn´t swear in the witness box that it was Moonroof, Leigh - it could easily have been Meheeco, and your description of it being played without the intro certainly rings some bells. There wasn´t a ´natural´single on Sky 3, the way Toccata was on 2. I have a feeling that Moonroof was the single in Australia and maybe that´s why I´m remembering it as the video. That being said, I´ve never seen either video shown in public anywhere.

Many thanks Steve for your further comments – it’s good to know my memory may not be too bad after all! My main recollection of this video was that it was shorter than the version on Sky 3 and therefore more likely to be Meheeco than Moonroof. Unfortunately, I’ve never seen this video again since that time.
