Hey folks,

I'm new to this forum though I've been wanting to be a part of it for a while. I'm from Australia and have many fond memories of seeing Sky on every Australian tour (except the first with Francis, dammit!!!) The last one was to promote Great Baloon Race and they brought Rick Wakeman with them which was fantastic to see.

Does anyone know what Tristan is doing nowadays? Is he per-cussing (as opposed to cussing) for an orchestra or a band? As happy as they all looked, Tristan always seemed to be the smiliest fellow of the group.

Cheers,
Maurice.

I've been away fropm the site for a long time, but I did want to comment on this.

Of all the band, Tris is the one I know least about since Sky last played. I expect he's teaching somewhere 'cos I've not seen his name anywhere on any performance lists.

Last I heard of Tris was when I was with Francis and he took a phone call re Sky and their issue with royalties re CDs.

Re cocncerts with Rick Wakeman do you have the programme as I'd love a copy in pdf or whatever?

First Post from a newbee.

I sing in the Choir at St Paul's Cathedral and we occasionally do concerts with an orchestra, for which Tristan plays Timpani from time to time. The impressive thing is that he plays each note as if he loves it and would rather be there than doing anything else in the world. It's a rare thing to see in London professioal musicians.

My brother also got to meet him when the amatuer choir he sings in (The English Baroque Choir) took part in a concert with the Orchestra of Saint John (based at St John's, Smith Square, London). The orchestral filler in the second half was Leopold Mozart's "Toy Symphony" which involves some solos on a number of children's instruments. Volunteers were sought from the audience and choir to play these and my brother ended up with the snare drum. What he didn't realize was that this would mean spending the interval in a twenty minute percussion lesson with Tristan Fry!

Sometimes it pays to volunteer.

Hey folks,

Thanks for that info about Tristan, Roy. I'm not surprised he returned to doing orchestral work, as he was really an orchestral player before a rock drummer. I'm envious of your brother's percussion lesson.

Mike, I do have a program from the Wakeman tour. Let me know if you want it scanned, and I'll see what I can do.

Cheers,
Maurice.

There is now a Facebook page for SKY created by Esoteric Records when they released the albums with DVDs in 2016. Last year Tristan did a web chat via this page which was interesting.

Maurice I'd love to see scans of the Wakeman Tour which would complete my records. I have a recording of Sky live from Adelaide aired by ABC at that time I could send in exchange. Let me know your details and I will email you privately.
