HI Mike, here is quick report: Francis was in Germany for four weeks in May/June. The first two weeks we explored some organs and prepared the two concerts he gave at the end of those first two weeks. The second half of his visit he spent recording on a number Gerhardt organs with George Chkiantz. The stuff he recorded is intended to eventually appear on a doubble CD that shows what great organs the Gerhardt family built. The Gerhardts (three generations) built organs around Jena from the 1730s to the 1820s. So there are fine baroque instruments as well as early romantic ones. To suit the instruments Francis recorded pieces from Bach, Bull, Pachelbel, Scheidt, Mendelsohn, Schuhmann and others. Currently he is preparing yet another recording trip to Germany in fall to record the Reubke Sonate. The double CD will be a very fine program, I heard parts of it during the concerts and the music and the way he plays it absolutely touch my soul. A lot of people at the concerts felt similarly. So make sure you get yourself a copy! Talk soon, Harald |
