Hi everyone, Just managed to acquire a sky single from 1981 which was new to me - it certainly isn't mentioned on the singles section of this site. Basically, it's 'Meeheco'/'Toccata'. The catalogue number is 103 682 and it's from Germany on the ariola label. Certain things about it make it very collectable. First of all, it's in a nice gatefold sleeve which is based on the cover of the first sky LP. The names of the band members are displayed beneath the sky logo, although Steve's surname is spelt 'Grey'. On the reverse, there is an advert for the first three sky albums and Kevin Peek's 'Awakening' Inside the gatefold there is firstly a brief resume of the band's career, plus biographical notes and then a 1981 European tour itinerary. This seems to be specific to the German leg of the tour and the dates, if you are interested, are: 9.11 Mannheim - Musensaal. 10.11 Munchen - Deutsches Museum. 16.11 Berline - Hochschule der Kunste. 17.11 Koln - Sartory. 18.11 Dusseldorf - Tonhalle. 19.11 Frankfurt - Jahrhunderthalle. 20.11 Hamburg - Audimax. As to the actual record, the b side is simply Toccata as per the 1980 single and Meheeco is an edit (3:52) of the sky3 version of the tune (it omits roughly the first 2 mins 44 seconds of the album version). Neither Meheeco nor Toccata are actually mentioned by name on the record sleeve itself. A fairly unique single and, as I say, not one that I had heard of before. Strange that it includes Toccata on the b side ad that there is no mention of Francis Monkman anywhere on the packaging. Still, a fantastic collectors item and one I thought I'd mention. Sorry that I can't include pics. Sorry that the forum has gone kind of quiet lately and that Richard seems to have vanished into thin air. Hope all is well. |
