STEVE GRAY I am sure that everyone will be sorry to learn the very sad news that Steve has passed away. As I understand it, Steve died on the morning of 20 September 2008 whilst in hospital in London. This terrible news comes to me from his family. Obviously our loss as fans will be as nothing compared to that felt by Steve's family and friends and I am certain that we would all wish to extend our sincerest sympathies to them at this time. It is clear to me that Steve was very proud of sky and had a great deal of time for the fans. I know that many of us enjoyed email correspondence with Steve over the years and it wasn't so long ago that Steve was a regular contributor to this forum; taking part in and initiating many interesting and entertaining discussions. It would have felt wrong, therefore, not to have mentioned this sad news on this website. All I would like to say in closing is "Thanks, Steve, for all the pleasure you have given. You will be missed and never forgotten." Chris |

Thanks Chris for your message, I didn't know this had happened. As I said privately, coming on top of the news of Richard Wright's death (Pink Floyd founder member) that's a double blow to many music fans. I'll certainly be going back to my collections and picking out a few favourites to listen to over the next few days, in remembrance of two of the best keyboardists I've ever heard. |

I've only just checked the forum here as I keep getting a broken link or it seems like there's been no activity. I'm utterly shocked and saddened by this news and feel for his family at this time, even though it's a very late post. I was one of those who used to swap the occasional email from Steve, and knowing how busy he was, I was always thrilled when I saw a reply in my inbox. Let's hope he's entertaining in the great concert hall in the sky! |

Read his obituary http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/oct/31/steve-gray-obituary My suggestion to remaining members of the band do 1 show for the fans to thank Steve for his contribution. Francis could return on keyboards and pay homage to his replacement. No one else could have replaced Francis/ I have revisited my Sky reportirre and Steve Gray CDs to remember how good he is. A very sad loss, I miss his emails and forum feedback. Mike |

Thanks, Mike, for adding that link to the Guardian obituary. I think many people fail to appreciate that he was largely self-taught and yet look at (or rather listen to!) what he could compose, arrange and play. He was certainly a musical genius and I hope he will be remembered as such. Clearly many people already think of him as such. A concert by the original line-up of sky, including some of Steve's compositions? A great idea. I hope at least one of the guys is reading this... |

I'd love that, but fear that it's too much to hope for. Fancy proving us wrong boys? |
