| I heard an even worse version than ours of "The Ride Of The Valkyrie" on Friday night on the Muzak at the Blue Marlin restaurant, Rostock, NE Germany, played by massed synthesised mandolins. It was followed by "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" sung by a close-harmony group. Food was good though. |

Hi Steve, welcome back (to the UK and to the forum).
Synthesised mandolins? That must be bad!
I did hear Cavatina played by a 50-piece mandolin orchestra once, though (when I lived in Paris in the early 80s). I thought it was pretty good.
Much as I generally like the concept of taking other people's music and making new things, I don't think anyone should muck about with AWSoP (especially considering it's already a re-interpretation of Bach).
And talking of synths, I just noticed that Dr Moog has just passed away. RIP. I can't imagine what the modern music industry would be like without the advances he made.

To go ever so slightly off topic...
Just bought a copy of 'sky live at Westminster Abbey' on video (mono, I suspect) and must say that I continue to be impressed by Steve's use of the pitch-bender (and possibly modulation?) on Chiropodie No. 1 and Hotta. I am certain that this was the first time I had ever seen anyone using a pitch-bender on a synth (in this case, the Oberheim OB1). Strangely enough, I don't think Francis used it that much, did he?) It took me years to discover the proper name for this device and a couple of friends and myself just used to refer to it as "that thing that makes the synthesiser squeak!" I know... but I was young and naive in those days! (Weren't we all?)
Anyway, sorry for this distraction! All this talk about Moog synthesisers and seeing Steve's name on the forum again just got me thinking. As I do occasionally...
