Don't know but one thing you can do to strenthen them from the inside out is have a diet that is rich in certain type of protein, such as collagen. You get collagen in jelly. Or you could bite your fingernails... :-) |

The best repair for split/cracked and even partially torn off (using power tools carelessly!) nails I've found is cyanoacrylate adhvesive - superglue! It can last for a couple of weeks. In extreme cases, I've built up several layers then sanded it down to suit. It stings a bit at first... :-) |

Nextdoor neighbour's little girl (10) decided that I needed a makeover last week - bless her. So apart from painting my face and applying all the gunk such as lipstick and mascara, etc, she painted my nails with nail varnish. Some of it's still on and I can vouch for the fact that none of the nails have thus far split. The perils of babysitting a ten year old girl... Hope this helps. ;o) |

While some nail varnishes can provide a tough coat, they can damage the underlying nail making it easily damged once the varnish comes off. Can't remember the details. Will need to ask my daughter tomorrow! |

...Right, that's the last time I allow her to paint my nails! Mind you, she did me a favour last night. Insisted that I took her to the make-up counter is Asda - why does she think I am made of money? - because she 'needed some make-up'. As they obviously do at that age. She then proceded to put some Maybelline Cover Stick (Medium 23) on my 'red nose'. Have to admit it looked quite good. I was so impressed, I bought it, which means I can now show my face in public without looking like a wino. I also treated her to some glittery purple eye-shadow stuff as a reward. So, if anyone has any red nose problems (male or female) I hope this helps. And now, as all my money has gone for the week, it's bread and water for the next few days. And no more trips to Asda's make-up counter. For the time being... |

Mane 'n Tail "Hoofmaker" which you can get at your local Feed store is the best nail preserver, bar none. Keeps your nails from getting dry and brittle, which is how they become suseptible to breaking in the first place. |
