For all you smegheads out there (including me!) - Amazon is listing RD7 - due out in November. RD8 in supposed to be available in February next year. It may be worth waiting for Play.com to give a price. Red Dwarf is, in my opinion, one of the best comedy series the BBC has made, ranking alongside "Yes Minister", "The League of Gentlemen", "The New Statesman", "Blott on the Landscape", "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"..... I've had plenty of uncontrollable belly laughs and tears watching these! The Beeb doesn't make them like they used to - in fact I can't think of any they've made recently. It's beginning to look as if I've already outlived the golden age of the BBC.... |

Don't forget "Father Ted", "The Beiderbecke..." (3 series)... A Red Dwarf movie is at the script reading stage. |

Series 7 (3 discs) is due out next week. There seems to be a large number of 'extras' with this. Play.com seems to be asking the lowest price (free delivery). Time to reach for the credit card.... |

Play.com are doing some amazing deals at the moment; series one of Space: 1999 for about £55 (rrp about £80!), Regan for £9.99 (rrp about £15) and the last volume of 'new' Doctor Who for the same and the original Outer Limits series for considerably less than you'd pay for them in your local HMV. |

It's a pity Blake's 7 is still so expensive. It may well have been, virtually, a BBC children's program 'time filler', but still commands a higher price than the latest "Hollywood Blockbusters". (I wonder why). Written by Terry Nation, who also had more than a little input in Dr Who. There are whispers that the Beeb are going to make a TV film version. (It's about time! The usual 20+ years delay!). Amazon.com (the US arm) has this mildly amusing typo about a DVD:- "This title will be released on December 31, 1969." There's news too about the Beeb's ideas on free (excluding TV licence!) broadcasting. "Early next year" the Beeb intend to introduce their own version of satellite broadcasting, to 'complement' Freeview, which will be called 'Freesat'. There's some Q & A which make interesting reading. (There's a trademark war at the moment). Maybe, just maybe, they'll broadcast something some of the stuff we want.... |

A comment worthy of emphasis from the Q & A's. "it will allow the BBC and ITV to supply their services directly to consumers without the broadcasters having to pay Sky to encrypt their programmes" |

Back to RD7. Just arrived. Interesting... It's a 3 DVD set. The cover says "Includes 'Identity Within' - the lost episode..." and "Over 4 hours of deleted scenes, outtakes..." and "Lister has one of the hottest screen kisses ever. Pity it's not with the girl of his dreams. Pity it's not with a girl" :-) |
