okay .. so here's a tenuos one!
As as struggling 16 year old guitarist (circa 1982) I became obsessed with the bridge from the JW "Bridges" album, and convinced my dad that it would be a good sunday afternoon jaunt to ... errr ... go and find it!?
According to the cover it was simply "the Trout at Godstow". So off we went. Godstow, as it happens, is near Oxford, and the Trout is a pub. Problem number one - we lived in North London.
Four and a half hours later we arrive. I was ecstatic that we had found this mythical place - Dad was simply glad it was actually a pub.
The bridge did indeed look beautiful - much the same as the album cover. Although in my youth I took with a pinch of salt the fact that it was so old that it was now (1982) considered unsafe and was blocked off at either end sotherefore totally useless as a bridge!
So here's the point ..... album cover artwork. Anyone ever actually BEEN to any of the places on favourite album covers?

The bridge is in the grounds of the Trout Inn at Wolvercote Oxford
Same pub as used in many Inspectore Morse progs

I went looking for the Nine Maidens - a Cornish stonerow photoed and title-tracked on a John Renbourn album. The album notes give some useful information(off the road between St Columb and Padstow) and they're on the OS map. So I parked in the lay-by and found the stile... the farmer had helpfully put some wire over it with a 'beware bull' notice. Over the far side of the field where I knew I wanted to go was a large bovine object.
That's as near as I got. |

I date myself now and my origins will show
But I used to love and never got a copy of Man - Live from the Paget Rooms (Penarth South Glam near Cardiff Wales)
Passed venue many times but never got a copy of album

Would that be Manfred Man? Only joking! Day-glo green telecasters, double lead guitar... that the ones?
I've got a Handel CD with a view of the Monument circa 1770 on the cover. I bought it in MVC at London Bridge though I doubt anyone in the shop even noticed the cover let alone thought it had a local connection. |
